Greetings from Chiang Mai, Thailand!
This month, my team and I are working with a hostel in the city of Chiang Mai!
Also, if you take a look at the left side of this page, you may notice that I now have a new team…
We had team changes a couple of weeks ago. Although I will miss my first team, I’m very excited for what this new season will bring! Meg, who was also on my first team, is our team leader, and we are with Sam, Kimbra, Alli, and Mallory. I’m looking forward to getting to know them more!
Now, on to ministry. We have spent most of our days here painting the hostel (which is a huge project, by the way, because it’s 4 or 5 stories tall). There were tons of beautiful murals with scripture passages woven in, but unfortunately those may have kept some people from recommending staying at this hostel, or unwelcome here, because everything screamed Jesus. But with the new, modern and simple theme we’re helping create, people from all walks of life will feel more welcome here and the staff can use friendly conversation and acts of service to share Jesus with them instead.
We have painted 5 rooms so far, and will continue this project until we leave Thailand, or we finish!
This week, we have also been able to take one day to focus on the spiritual side of ministry (alternating between two halves of my team). We pray for half of the day over the hostel and the new season it’s being prepared for, for the staff, for the city, and any other requests from our teammates or the staff. The other half of the day is “Ask the Lord” time, which means that we pray and ask God what to do, and then we go and do it. Sometimes He’ll answer with: more prayer, or evangelism, or worship in a public place, or that we just need to step out the door and He’ll take us step by step.
Today, three teammates and I went to a park filled with beautiful flowers and did worship there. One of them also made a friend from Austria and was able to share with her a little about why we’re in Thailand.
We’ll have other projects to work on besides the painting and prayer days as the month goes on, but that’s all I’ve been up to for now!
Although… I did have a pretty fantastic adventure day this week. There’s an old quarry filled with water called the Grand Canyon that my team and I went to. They had floaties, and stand-up paddleboards, and cliff jumping (25 feet)! I did all the things, and this was my first time cliff jumping. I can’t say I’m a huge fan because it kind of hurt when I hit the water, but I see why people like it.
Next week, I plan to go hiking or whitewater rafting! There are tons of outdoorsy options just outside the city, which has been great for us!
That’s all for now, thank you for reading, and make sure you subscribe for future blog updates!
I’m still not fully funded, and need the rest of the money to come in soon so I can continue on the Race! If you could consider a donation of $100, that would help me so much!!
I think I’ve been to that quarry!! Awesome update Lauren – you guys are there for a beautiful and interesting time in the hostel’s history! The things you guys do now will echo for a long time. Proud of you Lauren – keep running after it!
